THE Met Office has issued a yellow warning of severe weather for Dorset on Sunday and Monday.

The warning for rain for the South West was issued at lunchtime today and includes the whole of the county.

It is valid from 6am on Sunday and reads: “Wet and windy weather is expected to move north into some southern areas of England and Wales during Sunday.

"The public should be aware that heavy and persistent rain may cause localised flooding and also that strong easterly winds could also cause some disruption, particularly near English Channel coasts.

The Met Office has three levels of warning for the public - yellow for "be aware", amber for "be prepared" and red for "take action".

Dorset Wildlife Trust’s annual Walk for Wildlife, which was due to take place on Sunday, has been postponed due to the poor weather forecast.

A statement issued said: "We are liaising with Leeson House to find another suitable date and it is most likely that this will be in Spring 2013 which would also ensure participants get plenty of notice.

"We will confirm the new date in the next few weeks and notify everyone registered for the walk in writing. Should they not be able to make the date then they will of course receive a full refund."
