THESE are the spectacular images that won the Daily Echo/Castle Cameras Air Festival 2012 photographic competition.

We had hundreds of entries representing the full range of events that thrilled visitors over the four-day festival.

The adult section attracted 324 entries and the junior section 58.

Picking winners was a tough task, but the judges eventually chose Geoff Taylor of Moordown as the adult winner and 13-year-old Matthew Le Riche in the junior section.

Keen amateur photographer Geoff was standing near the TV screens on Bournemouth’s East Cliff when he caught a spectacularly colourful shot of the Red Arrows in action.

“I put it up on a photographic website and got a great response,” said Geoff, who was a finalist in last year’s competition. It looks like they’re coming at you. It’s something I really enjoy doing and to get something like this makes it all the more worthwhile.”

He wins a Canon Powershot G12 camera courtesy of Castle Cameras in Bournemouth.

Matthew Le Riche, 13, from Godshill near Fordingbridge , is both a keen photographer and an aviation buff.

His dad Mike said: “All he wants to do is be a pilot.”

Matthew, who goes to Burgate School, was also on the East Cliff when he took his shot of the Red Arrows banking. “He was standing near the commentary box and the Red Arrow memorial taking hundreds of pictures,” said Mike.

He wins a Samsung SH100 from Castle Cameras.

Daily Echo group editor Toby Granville said: “We had an amazing standard of entries. They were outstanding, particularly the children’s pictures. It was great to get such a wide range of creative ideas.

“I’m delighted we were able to showcase such phenomenal talent.”
