Canford Bottom crash

A CAR ended up in a field after a two vehicle accident by the Canford Bottom roundabout at 6.55am today.

The grey Seat Ibiza, which was registered to a Ringwood woman, ended up around 20 metres into a field between Ham Lane and the A31.

Dorset Fire Service sent two retained fire crews from Wimborne station, who removed the vehicle's roof and extracted the woman on a board as a precaution.

South West Ambulance service attended but Dorset Police said the accident only resulted in minor injuries. They did not have an age for the woman who was cut free.

The other car involved was a blue BMW estate, registered to a woman from Wimborne.

There were no road closures or diversions and police said they finished dealing with the incident at 8.45am.

This is probably the most dangerous junction in Dorset now. Stupid traffic light settings make it a death trap.

Agreed.. My 12 month year old son could design better

I refuse to use this junction unless I'm going in and taking the first exit out, or it's very late at night IE 11pm when nobody (or hardly anyone) is on the wretched thing.

It's a death trap and only a matter of time before the worst happens on this poorly designed work of incompetence. As responsibly as we are all expected to drive, there will always be someone who doesn't meet that expectation who will cause accidents worse than this, and that's on roads that are generally well designed...

I think the problem is that the lane markings are printed on the lanes too late - I use this juction almost everyday and I know where I'm going now , but countless amount of people who don't are trying to look where to go! Yhe amount of times people have almost side swiped me!
I think they should colour co-ordinate the lanes and have better markings - make it easier too (and yes i know someone will say 'what about people with colour blindness! ' but they can read the lane markings)

But this road traffic collision is obviously caused by bad driving yet again as how on earth on a 40mph road with traffic lights can a car end up in a field!!

Whoever designed this junction needs sacking as it is a disaster coming from Ham Lane especially in the morning the lights can change four or five times by the time you have driven from just before the fox and hound pub to the roundabout. What should done is turn it back the way it was a simple roundabout before someone is killed as this is only a matter of time.

If someone had used the common sense to put a flyover in for the people using the A31 and simply put lights on with no new markings, at strategic points in the roundabout as per Fleetsbridge, which has 5 separate junctions in total (not counting entrance/exitways as individual junctions) there wouldn't be so much of an issue. This would alleviate the issue of traffic flow around the roundabout while allowing through traffic to harmlessly pass over the top.

If Carlsberg did planning officers...

The only surprise is that this type of accident didn't happen sooner, as it occurred just where two lanes become one - and we all know that most people think that 'merge in turn' means 'me first'. Maybe that wasn't the reason, of course, but...

As perfect and text book drivers as we're all meant to be, that is NEVER the case and there will always be that style of 'me first' driving among a number of road users that causes these things - the junction should have been designed with that in mind.

It's the same attitude that caused that family in Wales to be be knocked over into a reservoir to their death, cyclists to be knocked down, etc.

I miss read the article, I thought it said. "Dorset Police said the accident only happened because of the dodgey roundabout"

I think we need to seperate the issues here, the time delays and traffic light changes cause delays not accidents. I believe it is a 30 limit through the junction so accidents are purely down to bad driving. most of the issues I see in my daily drive through the junction are purely down to people trying to push in at the merge points or travelling too fast.
That said, I cannot see where all the money went and what the junstion has achieved either!!

Bad drivers on well designed roads etc= possible accidents. Bad drivers on bad designed roads and roundabouts!! = increased possible accidents... Therefore, road design and layout is a contributing factor of accidents, it's not just down to bad driving.

It's 40mph through there.
At that speed no car should end up in a field!

All because they didn't want to spend the extra £0.07 to put in a fly over. Last night I spent a lifetime going from ham lane to the Ferndown bypass due to 4 sets of lights, each of which went red. Complete farce of a junction which has caused lots of incidents.

While busy trying to read the road markings and figure out which lane to switch to ,it is easy to miss what the traffic lights are indicating above. Can we have the lights embedded in the road or the directions up high with the lights please.
