MOTORISTS are facing further travel misery getting through Hamworthy after a void was found under the road.

Residents have complained of repeated visits by workers digging up Blandford Road and Wessex Water has now discovered a hole under the road during their latest excavation work.

It had been believed that the heavy rainfall this year had caused the void but council workers have now asked the water company to stop working while they investigate the cause.

A Wessex Water spokesman said: “We have been carrying out excavations at the site and have discovered a void under the road.

“After liaising with the council they have asked us to stop work until they can carry out investigations into what has caused the void.”

The council will visit the site on Monday, so four way traffic signals will remain in place at the Turlin Road junction.

They will be controlled manually between 7am and 7pm over this weekend to minimise disruption.

“Delays are expected so we encourage anyone using the route to allow extra time for their journeys,” the spokesman added.
