A 100-YEAR-OLD woman has celebrated her special birthday with a tea party and entertainment from a dance troupe.

Florrie Davison was joined by members of her family and friends at Adams Court residential care home in Talbot Woods for a grand tea party in recognition of her century.

The great-grandmother also had great fun when she joined in with the song and dance of The Land Girls, a troupe of volunteers who perform simple routines to old wartime favourites.

Her son Frank and his wife Cherry were really pleased to be able to join in the fun on Florrie’s special day.

Frank said: “She remembers the war years in London after spending many occasions all huddled together in the cellar with bombs dropping around them.”

He added: “Earlier this year, we thought mum would benefit from the company and a safer environment, so we contacted Sheila from Adams Court.

“She kindly said they would make room for her and, thanks to the lovely staff, she’s flourished since she arrived in May.”

Florrie has five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and ran a club in Moordown for more than 30 years, only ending it at the age of 98. Her philosophy in life is to have a tot of whisky in the morning and a tot of brandy before she goes to bed.

She does plenty of walking and indulges in the odd cigarette, when she fancies one, which says her son, Frank, isn’t bad for a 100-year-old.
