FANCY yourself as the next Bear Grylls? Why not take part in a fundraising Castaway challenge?

Dorset-based disability charity Diverse Abilities Plus is organising the five-day event in September to raise much-needed funds, and there is still time for adventurers to take part.

Participants will be “stranded” in a mystery woodland, at a beach location in the South West of England and will take part in a variety of activities including secret challenges and tasks to learn and complete, survival techniques, navigating, sea fishing and more.

No level of physical fitness is required, but participants must be over the age of 18.

Sue Robathan, the owner of Melodies in Motion, a company providing music therapy and exercise for seniors and disabled adults, has already signed up.

She is hoping to raise more than £550 in sponsorship and is contributing ten per cent of the fee she charges for her music sessions with new clients booking between now and October, to Diverse Abilities Plus.

Sue said: “Sue said: “The thought of doing something adventurous on my doorstep, for such a worthy cause, was too good an opportunity to miss.

“I am very keen to support Diverse Abilities Plus as they do such an important job tailoring their services to the needs of the adults and children they support.”

She has also offered a free music session at Barnabas, one of the services provided by Diverse Abilities Plus.

The Castaway Challenge takes place from September 22 to 26. Entry is £50 per person and each person is asked to raise a minimum of £550 in sponsorship.
