The Echo knows how many eagle-eyed readers we have out there when an incident takes place.

At the first whiff of smoke at the scene of a fire, we are grateful to get a call.

It’s the same when a crash happens or a stabbing or an assault.

And it’s good to know that alertness is paying dividends by helping the emergency services.

On page seven today we report how quick-thinking residents contacted the Dorset and Fire Rescue Service when a fire broke out at St Joseph’s Catholic Combined School in Poole.

If they hadn’t done this, David Colclough, the crew manager from Westbourne , believes the school could have been destroyed.

Once again, thank you to all those who see an incident and immediately report it to the emergency services so they can tackle it promptly and also thanks for letting us know so that we can also record what took place.
