THE pageantry of 14th century England with its knights and ladies, heraldic shields and tournaments was vividly brought to life at The Poole Town and Country Show.
Swords of Chivalry was one of many attractions that got families flooding to Upton Country Park over the weekend for the two-day show.
Their medieval entertainment had the audience cheering all the good knights and booing all the baddies during their lively demonstrations.
The traditional Punch and Judy shows, magnificent heavy horses, the frantic fun of ferret racing with Wessex Ferrets, falconry displays and Purbeck Gun Dog school demonstrations were among many attractions.
While in the show kitchen there were cookery demonstrations with chef and forager Hector Bunting and wine and real ale tasting with Richard Calderbank.
The all day entertainment included arts, crafts, gifts and food marquees, bringing country pursuits and town activities together.
“Because we have got a very varied programme it really works for the whole family,” said Emma Owen, director of Oakleigh Fairs, which has held the popular show for the past four years at Upton Country Park.
“We have had a couple of showers but that hasn’t stopped people coming. I am really delighted with the turnout. The sun came out on Sunday and everyone appeared to be having a great time. This is the busiest we’ve been in our four years at Upton House.”
And on Sunday people also had the chance to take along man’s best friend and compete in a Companion Dog Show which raised funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Every £1 entry fee went to support the charity.
