A BOSCOMBE man completed a 125-mile paddleboard challenge in just 30 hours and 26 minutes.

Mark Slater, 44, used the same route as the Devizes to Westminster international canoe marathon.

He told the Echo: “It is a record for the fastest time to complete the route on a paddleboard – the previous best was four days.

“I did it in one push straight through, with five short stops to top up with food and fluid.

“The hardest part was trying to navigate at night, with the river and locks in complete darkness.”

“I occasionally found myself paddling in circles thinking ‘which way does the river go?’”

Last year the Echo reported how Mark had paddled from the source of the Thames to the sea.

He thanked Fanatic Boards, ION clothing, QuickBlade paddles and The Bag Shop for their support.
