ASTONISHING. There has never been a weekend like it in British Olympic history. There is barely enough space in this column to list the incredible achievements of Team GB in the past 48 hours alone, never mind the first week of London 2012.
After the emotional and stunning scenes on Saturday night involving Jessica Ennis, Greg Rutherford and Mo Farah came the drama and triumph of Ben Ainslie.
How fitting that Weymouth Bay, bathed in sunshine and looking magnificent should take its turn in celebrating gold. The many thousands of spectactors who lined the shore can surely claim to have helped give Ainslie the vocal support he needed to become the most successful Olympic sailor ever. They were privileged to witness history being made. Super Saturday became Wow Weekend with Andy Murray doing his bit too. Team GB has already done the nation proud.
And vice-versa.
