THEY did Dorset proud. Tens of thousands of spectators turned up to line the routes of the Olympic torch relay in Bournemouth, Poole and Purbeck yesterday to enjoy a truly memorable occasion.

And for those taking part it must have been an unforgettable experience as the crowds cheered them on. The weather too played its part with the area bathed in sunshine.

The expected downpours for once stayed away.

Today many of you will once again be taking to the streets to applaud the torchbearers as they make their way through Bournemouth, Boscombe and Christchurch. It is set to be a magical weekend for all concerned, and the Echo team of photographers and reporters will once again be there to record the historic event for posterity with a special supplement on Monday.

Let’s hope that this combination of good spirits and fine weather finally launches us into the summer we all long for.
