THE Met Office has lifted its yellow weather warning for Dorset.

After heavy rain showers yesterday, the possibility of flooding and disruption to travel has been downgraded.

But the Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the River Stour across Sturminster Newton, Wimborne and Christchurch.

Water levels are rising and are predicted to overflow the banks.

There were delays on trains between Bournemouth and Southampton Central due to flooding at Sway, plus flooded roads through Upton and Corfe Castle.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service has received more than 200 call outs in the last 24 hours.

These involved flooding incidents and stuck cars, mainly in the west of the county.

The brigade took more than 50 calls reporting flooded back gardens and ditches, prompting a reminder to only ring in with emergency situations, a spokeswoman said.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service had a number of calls from people saying their homes were flooded yesterday morning.

But the amount of water was not large enough for firefighters to get involved, a spokeswoman said.

No roads have been closed in the Hampshire Police force area and they have had no reports of flooding.
