A BURNING van loaded with beer kegs and whisky blocked Bournemouth’s busiest road both ways.

The Ford Transit caught fire on the A338 Wessex Way around 12.45pm yesterday.

The driver parked up on the Westbound carriageway a few hundred yards short of the Kings Park junction.

Fire crews from Springbourne and Christchurch put out the fire by 1pm but it destroyed the engine and drivers’ compartment.

The cause of the fire is unknown and nobody was injured.

Police initially closed the road both ways then reopened the eastbound carriageway at 1.04pm and then the westbound carriageway after the vehicle was recovered at 1.20pm.

The van, which was registered to a Bournemouth company, had its rear doors open and the load included beer kegs and crates of whiskey.
