SIXTY Million Postcards is as quirky as its name suggests. Nightlife legend has it that some bright spark worked out that 60,000,000 postcards have been bought and posted from sunny, sunny Bournemouth since the town incorporation in the Victorian-era.

Not that anyone’s arguing but it's as good a reason as any for the team behind London’s ultra-trendy Camden Lock Tavern to name the Bournemouth pub Sixty Million Postcards in 2006. The bar/restaurant/music venue has since become a well-established bastion of culture in Bournemouth since its previous incarnation as Edwards.

History lesson over and Sixty Million Postcards has been highly praised in a recent consultation on Bournemouth’s nightlife.

Continuing this fine tradition is club night Howl, who tonight present young indie band Mafia Lights. Hailing from Surrey, the band combine strung out tribal space jams with pop hooks and swooning vocals.

The trio are currently working on an EP with Luv Luv Luv Records who put out their 7” double A side of West/Spiriting earlier this year. Mafia Lights draw influences from bands such as Vondelpark, Amusement and Disclosure.

As singer Joel puts it their schtick mainly revolves around “lovelorn future ballads and tribal metal jams.”

Tonight is free entry and runs from 8.30pm to 2am.
