AN extra 2,500 free tickets for Bournemouth’s Olympic Torch Relay evening party are being made available today.

It follows huge queues at the BIC last month when the first allocation went on sale – many people were left disappointed as the tickets were quickly snapped up.

They will now have a chance to try again as people with a BH postcode can apply via an online ballot being held at bhlivetickets.co.uk between 7am and midnight.

After the deadline, applicants will be selected at random and the lucky ones will be told by e-mail on Monday.

Sue Bickler, who chairs the Olympic Task Force, said: “It was clear from the initial ticket distribution that there was huge demand and interest in this free family event and that a lot of people were disappointed not to get tickets.

“We have responded by reviewing the site and event plan and have been able to increase the numbers we allow in by a further 2,500 people and still deliver a safe and enjoyable experience for all those attending.

“There are a number of terms and conditions but we are pleased to be able to offer a further chance for people to come down and celebrate this once in a lifetime experience on the beach.”

Residents who have already obtained tickets will not be allowed to apply again. Anyone with tickets no longer wanted or needed are being asked to hand them back so they can be reallocated.

The council has said that no more accessible viewing tickets can be made available.

Only those who are successful in the ballot will receive a confirmation email on Monday. Unsuccessful entrants will not be notified.

Those who are successful need to collect their tickets from the BIC ticket office by 8.30pm on Wednesday, July 11, and proof of address will be needed.

The evening celebration will see the torch arrive, followed by entertainment, and runs from 5.30pm to 8pm on Friday, July13, on Bournemouth beach. Doors open at 3pm and last entry is 6.30pm.
