CHILDREN at Verwood First School got into the Olympic spirit when they staged their very own opening ceremony.
The school was split into different countries for the week, with pupils wearing different colour t-shirts and making flags to represent their own country.
All the classes came together to put on different dances and take part in a torch relay to mark the start of a week of events.
Ann Nugent from Ringwood Seals, the South Sports Personality of the Year, who will be carrying the real Olympic torch on July 14, also attended to talk to the children about commitment to sport.
Lauren Palmer, year three base leader, said: “The school had a lovely day celebrating the start of the Olympics at their opening ceremony.
“The children enjoyed making flags and torches and enjoyed performing their different dances.”
