THE death of a woman who suffered fatal injuries as she tried to get off a bus in Bournemouth was a tragic accident, an inquest concluded.
A police investigation was launched after Carmel Buckley died of pneumonia and emphysemadue to a chest injury.
But a Bournemouth inquest was told no-one is to blame for the incident, which happened on January 31 as she walked down the gangway of a number 31, single-decker Yellow Buses bus in Southbourne Grove.
Mrs Buckley, 76, of Stourfield Road, Southbourne, died five days after the incident, which happened at a bus stop near to the junction with Grand Avenue at 11.55am.
District coroner Sheriff Payne recorded a verdict that Mrs Buckley died as the result of an accident.
A spokesman for Yellow Buses said: “We were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs Buckley and have fully co-operated at every stage of the police investigation, culminating in the inquest held in Bournemouth. This was a tragic accident and we extend our deepest sympathies to Mrs Buckley’s family.”
