FLOWERS were laid yesterday at the scene of a head-on crash that claimed the life of a Christchurch woman.

Words of tribute were left at the site on the A35 close to Holmsley in memory of the 61-year-old, believed to be Joyce Frigot of Somerford, after the incident on Sunday morning.

Police are looking for witnesses to the crash, which happened at around 10am between a red Vauxhall Astra and a silver Vauxhall Insignia, closing the road for most of the day.

The deceased woman, who has not yet been formally identified, was driving the Astra, which was heading towards Lyndhurst.

The Insignia was being driven towards Christchurch by a 52-year-old Southampton man.

Investigating officers said they were particularly keen to hear from the driver of a mid-to-light blue Volvo estate which was travelling along the A35 at the time of the collision.

One tribute left by the roadside read: “Joyce, you will truly be missed by us all. With love, Lisa, Sue, Tracey and family.”

Another wrote: “Joyce, you will be sadly missed but not forgotten. Love you always, Kim and Gordon.”

The front seat passenger of the Astra, a 39-year-old woman from Lee-on-Solent, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The Insignia driver also sustained minor injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital as a precaution.

Police investigating the crash are asking anyone who witnessed it or either vehicle beforehand to call Sgt Andy Lynch at the Road Death Investigation Team on 101, quoting Operation Armel. Phone 01962 841534 if calling from outside Hampshire.

• A 52-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the collision.

Police said yesterday he had been bailed until August 30 pending further enquiries.

Leave your tributes to Joyce below. Please do NOT use the comments for any other purpose. Many thanks.
