EVER fancied owning a strip of Sandbanks, mudflats or part of Dorset’s treasured heathland?

All this and more could be yours for a modest £10million price tag.

After more than 150 years, Canford Estate trustees have put 1,748 acres up for sale in one of the most unusual property portfolios in the south.

The Canford Portfolio includes part of Sandbanks peninsula, greenbelt land, mudflats at Lytchett Bay and Holes Bay and the 428-acre Little Moors Farm near Wimborne. Selling agents Savills have broken it down into nine main lots with 58 sub-lots to appeal to different buyers.

Director Simon Greenwood told the Daily Echo: “It’s undoubtedly an exciting buying opportunity.

“But for me it’s quite a sad time because I’ve managed the location for 36 years and there are mixed emotions within the family and the trustees as well.

“It’s very much the end of era.”

The Sandbanks lot is between the chain ferry and Poole Harbour. Mr Greenwood said: “It could go to a homeowner wanting to build a jetty, or just to sit back and think ‘Next step – New York’.

“It’s quite unusual for anyone other than the Crown or the Harbour Commissioner to own that foreshore line.”

Informal tenders are being taken until Wednesday, July 25.

Mr Greenwood said: “The phones haven’t stopped buzzing with people ringing up to get details.”

Whose hands the properties fall into could shape the area’s future for generations. Kinson Manor Farm, for example, was marked out for a 300 house development in previous draft plans.

The Canford estate was bought in 1846 and stretched from Tricketts Cross, to Hamworthy, Sandbanks, Wallisdown, Kinson and Corfe Mullen. Trustees representative Jonathan Henson said the portfolio sale has been a “major decision” representing the end of more than 150 years’ involvement in the area, adding: “It was therefore not taken lightly but a change in investment policy has led to the sale.”
