Two Bournemouth teams were left fuming after a routine evening match descended into a farce and had to be abandoned halfway through.

Problems in Wednesday’s match between JP Morgan and Winton Sports were “worthy of a Carry On film,” it has been claimed, concluding with players locked out of the pavilion and unable to access their kit or clothes.

The match started late because nobody could find a key for the pavilion and then the cricketers had to disrupt a ladies’ yoga session to find a scoreboard. But things got even worse when the teams took a break after the first innings.

The players returned to the pavilion but found the yoga session had ended and the pavilion was now locked, with no key in sight.

A duty manager was found but by the time they re-opened the pavilion, it was getting dark and the match had to be abandoned.

In a statement BH Live said the keys had been left in the pavilion and the wind had blown the door shut.

But Warwick Rust, secretary of the Bournemouth Evening Cricket League, said he could not understand why the Littledown staff did not have a duplicate key.

“You could not write a comedy script like this,” he said.

“It should have been a relatively simple task to go to the reception, get a duplicate key and then open the pavilion but it took so long that by the time they got back in, the light was going and the decision was taken to abandon the match.

“We had two very disgruntled teams and a match abandoned without a result.”

BH Live said in a statement: “Keys to the pavilion are hired out so that leagues can manage the matches directly.

“Unfortunately on this occasion the league happened to leave the keys in the pavilion and the wind blew the door shut.

“When this was discovered by our duty manager a locksmith was called and the situation resolved.

“We welcome Bournemouth Evening Cricket League to contact us directly regarding this, as we are keen to continue what has been an excellent working relationship to date.”
