First of all let me thank David Brown for his previous blogs.

A difficult task, I can still feel his frustration leaking out of his blogs at the anti-cycling brigade who constantly bemoan cyclists and even each other.

So let's hopefully start afresh.

I have a confession to make.

My name is Julian and I'm a cyclist. I'm proud to be a cyclist.

I even wear lycra, but it does show of my thighs and bum, doesn’t do much for my middle age spread tho!!!!

So let me tell you about myself.

My name is Julian Exton, I work for Cobham Aviation Services at Hurn airport as an aircraft engineer.

I'm married to a staff nurse at Poole hospital, I have two daughters - one 16 going on 24 and one amazing dancer, and one who is 12 and also a brilliant performer.

So yes three women in my house, I even think the goldfish is female! So to get out on my bike is a lifesaver.

I cycle as much as I can - twice a week to work, a round trip of 27 miles or 38 miles if I go via the beach and the promenade.

And every Sunday you will find me mountain biking around Dorset,an unspoilt county of England with many hidden gems, ancient byways, hill forts, chocolate box villages, copses and forests and some wonderful churches. Dorset a truly amazing place.

I will be sharing my cycling experiences and hopefully encourage others to take up cycling and venture off the beaten track.

This week so far I’ve not ridden to work as have been suffering from a severe case of man flu.

But I will be out on Sunday, I’m going out to Shroton or Iwerne Courtney, a place with two names, to cycle Smugglers Lane and Cranbourne Chase East. I'll report when I get back.

Please ride safely!
