THE chief accountant at Bournemouth council has quit his post – a month after it was revealed that he had been reinstated following a suspension.

Stephen Parker had been escorted from the Town Hall last October after emailing councillors with his concerns about an outsourcing deal with private firm Mouchel.

The council last month announced his reinstatement, saying he had made information public in his email with “honest intent”.

The outsourcing deal meant he had become an employee of Mouchel.

In an email to councillors revealed yesterday, Mr Parker said: “Following an eventful few months I have by mutual consent with the council and Mouchel decided to move on to new challenges beyond Bournemouth. “I would like to express my thanks in having had the opportunity to work with you over many years in helping to deliver services to Bournemouth’s residents and visitors.

“I would like to thank you for your support over the last few months. “This has been a very difficult period for me personally and your concern for my wellbeing is greatly appreciated.”

Council leader John Beesley said he wished Mr Parker well.

“He’s an officer with whom I’ve worked over a long period of time, particularly over financial and budgetary matters.

“We had a very good working relationship,” he said.

Independent group leader Cllr Anne Rey said: “What a sad loss of an excellent and dedicated officer.

“This council will be poorer without him.”
