THE National Farmers Union will be using an event on rural crime in Dorset to ask for more policing.

The NFU vice-president Adam Quinney will be among the speakers at Kingston Maurward on Friday and is urging countryside residents to champion their cause when they speak to candidates for the new police commissioner role.

He will call on them to seek commitments about rising rates of rural crime and to try and prevent limited resources being transferred to urban areas.

Mr Quinney, is planning to use the rural crime prevention event to seek more help from the police with illegal hare coursing and badger baiting.

He believes those involved often carry out more serious crimes by using their visits to the countryside to “case the joint” so they can come back later to steal.

The event is part of Operation Countryside and is running between 9am and 4pm.

Other speakers will include Jeremy Pope, the High Sheriff of Dorset pictured, Dorchester & Sherborne, Inspector Les Fry from Dorset Police and Clive Harris, from NFU Mutual.
