A SCHOOLBOY suffered serious leg injuries in an accident on a road that residents call ‘lethal’.

The 13-year-old was crossing Kinson Road in Bournemouth to catch a bus when he was in collision with a car at around 8.20 yesterday morning.

Resident Sally Shroder, a part-time administration worker, ran to cover him with a waterproof picnic blanket then directed traffic.

She told the Echo: “He was lying between the car and the pavement not saying very much and people were helping him.

“He was on his back, a bit to the right.

“The driver of the car was really, really, upset. She was crying and shaking.”

The boy was treated at the scene then taken to Poole Hospital.

Police said his injuries were “serious, but not believed to be life-threatening”.

The vehicle was a blue VW Passat estate registered to a woman from Poole.

South West Ambulance Service said the driver was suffering from shock.

Miriam Miller, 42, a retired social carer, lives immediately in front of the accident scene, at the junction with Cherford Road.

She said: “There was a sweet lady stroking his face and calming him down. He had a school uniform on, but I don’t know which one.”

Police diverted vehicles through Kingswell Road and a diversion was put in place at Columbia Road.

Mrs Miller added: “This is a very bad road.

“The crossing by the roundabout at Columbia Road is in totally the wrong place. It’s absolutely lethal.

“The youngsters have stopped using it and cross here because there are two bus stops.”

One resident, Jean Trowbridge, a domestic worker, said: “There have always been accidents along here – it’s terrible,” she added.

“There have been three in a couple of months.”

Mark Barker, 45, a postman said: “We have had a few accidents here and most of us have had close shaves crossing the road.”

Della Dawson, marketing co-ordinator at The Bourne Academy, said the injured boy was not from the school, but a Year 7 and a Year 8 pupil had helped comfort him at the scene.
