SOLDIERS got on their bikes on Bournemouth seafront to ride the length of the nation without getting anywhere.

The 16 fundraisers from the Troop Commanders’ course at Blandford Camp set up their exercise bikes at the pier to ride the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’Groats between them and finished the 875 miles in less than five hours.

Second Lieutenant Symon Smith said passers-by donated £639 for the Army Benevolent Fund and the Royal Signals Benevolent Fund.

He said: “It was really good the way that people came up to us and gave us lots of encouragement throughout the day.

“Some were really impressed by the distance we were doing.”
