OCCUPY Bournemouth protesters yesterday set up camp at Bournemouth University to try and force a meeting with its chancellor.

They set up four tents at the university’s pedestrian entrance by the Boundary Lane roundabout.

The protestors hope to meet chancellor Lord Philips of Worth Matravers, who is also head of the new Supreme Court.

Protestor Gary Sherborne, from Boscombe, said: “We did it because the High Court didn’t give Occupy London Stock Exchange leave to appeal their removal from St Paul’s Cathedral. That would have been heard by the Supreme Court.”

A Bournemouth University spokesman said: “We have asked the demonstrators to leave the University grounds.

“If they do not respond to this request, we will have to take legal action.

“Our primary concern is the well being and safety of our staff and students.”

The chancellorship position is ceremonial and holders have little involvement with the day-to-day running of the university.

Occupy is a global movement against the current economic system and distribution of wealth.

Protestors are also occupying part of the Boscombe Centre for Community Arts.
