Fast ferry services are to run out of Poole for a further month while work is carried out to the Weymouth berth.

Condor Ferries has confirmed that its services to the Channel Islands will operate from Poole until March 28.

For the past two weekends the Condor craft has sailed from Poole after concerns were raised by the company and Weymouth and Portland Borough Council over movement of the harbour wall.

Following an investigation by the council’s engineering team, plans are now in place for repair works to be carried out to the berth over the next four weeks.

Engineers anticipate the work will allow Condor Ferries to resume its services from Weymouth during the summer period.

“Condor Ferries is relocating sailings until March 28 to Poole, to minimise disruption to passengers and to offer as much advance notice as possible,” said Capt Fran Collins, operations director.

“Our customer services team are contacting all passengers to advise them of the change of port.

“The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority, and we will be working closely with Weymouth & Portland Borough Council to monitor the repairs over the coming weeks.

“By continuing to operate regular services from Poole, while the work is carried out in Weymouth, we can continue to sustain our lifeline ferry services between the Channel Islands and the UK,” she said.

The temporary move to Poole came after the disappointment of Brittany Ferries not running its Barfleur ferry to Cherbourg this year, and has been welcomed by Jim Stewart, chief executive of Poole Harbour Commissioners.

“We are obviously ensuring we give them a good service in Poole,” he said.
