PREPARATIONS are underway to ensure that the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Bournemouth is a ‘once in a lifetime spectacular’.
With six months to go before Bournemouth hosts the Olympic Torch Relay on Friday, July 13, the council has appointed an outside arts agency to ensure the celebrations are suitably impressive.
The Torch will be carried through the streets of Bournemouth before arriving at an evening celebration on the beach.
Bournemouth council is also responsible for ‘animating the route’ of the Olympic Torch as it travels through the town.
It has appointed Activate Performing Arts in partnership with Wave arts education agency and Soundstorm music development agency to co-ordinate both the evening celebration and the activities along the route.
A maximum of £33,400 will be spent on the project.
Sue Bickler, chairman of the Olympic Torch task force committee, said: “Bournemouth is proud to be hosting the overnight stay of the torch.”
