DON’T Believe The Hype as Public Enemy once sang. Lana Del Rey has been tabloid fodder for the last three months, so let’s get down to the music on her debut album.

Song titles Dark Paradise and Summertime Sadness sum up the sexy, summery and yet dark theme running throughout Lana Del Rey's sophomore release – her previous album Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant was only available online. The 12 tracks could be the soundtrack to a Tarantino movie, while Million Dollar Man has the necessary components of a Bond theme.

Del Rey chooses her voice depending on the characters she's playing, from brooding, affected or coquettish plaything, switching from a deep dredged-up drawl with bass guitar and echoey drum machine, to a cutesy Betty Boop, singing of ice cream and cinnamon. Radio, Video Games, Summertime Sadness and Blue Jeans are standout tracks for their memorable choruses.
