DORSET County Council’s cabinet has given the green light to the latest wave of spending cuts.

The authority is on course to save £28million in the current financial year but still needs to trim a further £15million from its budget in 2012/13.

Cabinet members were told in December that more than £9million had already been identified through continued savings from the efficiencies introduced this year, but a further £5.6million still needed to be found.

A range of further savings were put forward and considered by the council's overview committees and now the cabinet has agreed to recommend them to the full council for approval.

The proposed savings include £26,600 from the authority's museums budget, £42,000 from the arts and £41,500 from sports.

Also put forward are savings of £219,600 from the council's community safety team, with a resulting loss of two posts, a reduction of £200,000 in the council's training budget, and a saving of £435,000 in the council's concessionary fares contingency budget.

The council also hopes to achieve nearly £1million through the full year effect of restructuring introduced last year. The proposals go before full council on February 16
