A SEASIDE hotel could be bulldozed to make way for a major redevelopment scheme on Bournemouth’s West Cliff.

Plans have been submitted to replace the Bournemouth International Hotel and Ocean Palace restaurant on Priory Hill with a new larger eaterie, 57 self-contained flats, nine holiday apartments and underground parking.

John Montgomery, director of Tanner & Tilley Town Planning Consultants, said: “The West Cliff part of the town centre will see significant change in the next few years and this development will be at the forefront of the regeneration of the area.”

Tanner & Tilley says the existing hotel is no longer profitable and the redevelopment will create new jobs and tourist accommodation fit for the 21st century.

James Roberts from architect Anders Roberts, which has submitted an application to develop the site on behalf of Landmark Estates, described the scheme as “a prestigious project which will bring vibrancy to a tired yet important corner of Bournemouth”.

He added: “The design is contemporary and simple whilst respecting the historic character of the neighbouring conservation area. Utilising high quality materials and cutting edge design, we look forward to the proposal living up to our client’s name.”

James Bradley from Landmark Estates, said the feedback so far had been very positive, adding: “We are looking forward, after many months of hard work, to delivering a top quality scheme for Bournemouth.”
