AFTER months of talks over the future of a former private school in Burton, planning officers have recommended developers’ plans for approval.

The application to turn Homefield School in Winkton, near Burton into a 60-bed care home with 29 independent living units, will be decided by members of Christ-church council’s planning committee on January 5.

Quantum Lifecare submitted the plans, which include the restoration of the former Regency villa at the front of the school, back in April.

The scheme, also includes the re-moval of more modern extensions.

Burton Parish Council has also added their support to the scheme.

Homefield closed in 2005, nearly £1million in debt.

The former school, which is currently hidden behind tall hoardings in an attempt to deter vandals, is rundown and dilapidated, with graffiti adorning the outside of the buildings and broken glass strewn about the paths.

Henry Lumby, partner with Quantum Lifecare, said: “We are ready to start construction as soon as that consent is approved and the council will allow us on site.

“We are very keen to get this started and turn this into a beautiful site which will sit proudly at the heart of Winkton.”
