LICENSING bosses have postponed a meeting which could shape the future of entertainment at a popular Canford Cliffs nightspot.

Borough of Poole environmental health officers say they have been contacted a number of times about loud music coming from the Thirty Three restaurant and bar.

The venue in Haven Road plays music and books live artists to accompany diners on the weekend, but officials say they have been forced to warn bar owner, Keith Stewart, to lower the volume numerous times.

A noise abatement notice was served on the establishment in May this year. However, a document to the committee – supporting the environmental health position – only lists one complainant.

Licensing sub-committee members were set to review the licence this week, but this has been adjourned until January.

Mr Stewart told the Daily Echo: “We not only run a business in this area, we also live here and we try our best to minimise any noise and disturbance as much as possible.

“With that in mind, we only have music at the weekends.”

A report to the committee from a consumer protection officer states: “Unless the owner can install some method of controlling the noise when the door is opening and closing then it will continue to be a disturbance to residents.

“If a suitable method cannot be found then we see no alternative than to seek removal of the live and recorded music segments from the premises licence.”

A statement from neighbour Susan Whiteside, of Elmstead Road, Canford Cliffs, said: “This situation has been going on for approximately 10 months.

“My youngest child of 14 finds sleep totally impossible on a weekend if the bands are playing too loudly. He works hard at boarding school all week and then is denied a restful weekend when the bands are playing.”

The committee has the power to remove music from the premise’s licence.
