DETECTIVES investigating a violent assault in Bournemouth town centre have appealed for vital witnesses to come forward.

They are keen to hear from two men who were attacked themselves as part of the incident, which took place at 3.30am on Wednesday November 16.

The men left the scene before police arrived but a third victim, an 18-year-old Bournemouth man, suffered serious facial injuries and needed hospital treatment.

DC Steve Sutton of Bourne-mouth CID said the incident was sparked by an argument between a white woman and a black man outside Fresco café, next to the taxi rank at Horseshoe Common.

Three other men intervened in the argument, all of whom were assaulted by the first man.

“Two men left before the arrival of the police. “I am now appealing for these two men to come forward, irrespective of whether they received any injuries during the altercation, so I can find out exactly what happened,” said DC Sutton.

“I would also urge anyone who witnessed this assault to contact police urgently as I believe there were other members of the public in the vicinity, next to the taxi rank, on the pavement.”

DC Sutton stressed that all calls will be treated in confidence and asked members of the public to call 101, quoting incident number 16:40 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
