A SPORTS club has been given a boost after a kind-hearted businessman donated trophies and prizes for a fundraiser match.

Wessex Amateur Boxing Club (WABC), run by Steve Clark and Peter Dytham, which has been going for a year, held a show to raise money to buy more equipment.

Former member and young entrepreneur, Adam Myer, of We Buy Ltd stores, stepped in to sponsor the event, held on November 4 at AFC Bournemouth Seward stadium, as well as provide trophies and raffle prizes.

Steve said: “Adam recently managed to open three stores and despite achieving this in such a difficult time for the retail industry, he was still prepared to step up and help our struggling amateur boxing club.”

He added: “Without the help of people like Adam, voluntary clubs like ours, that help the youth of our community, could not survive.

“It’s great to know there are still people out there prepared to give back even in these trying times.

“Among others, we deal with young people who’ve been in trouble with the police or may even have been young offenders.”

The club has around 60 members from nine years of age and Steve says that some of the group who had misbehaved before have changed their behaviour since joining up.

“Some come from backgrounds where they haven’t had discipline, and I don’t mean this in a militant way, but here we teach them about respect,” he said.

“Occasionally, we have people who may not have listened to their parents or teachers, but for some reason they listen to us and now they have that discipline.”

Adam, 28, said: “Steve is a good man and so I was happy to help.”

He added: “He’s a really good instructor, he’s good at what he does and so I’m keen to get involved in some way.

“I used to go to the club, but now, as I’m getting the business going, I don’t have time, so I try to help with sponsorship instead.

“When I was younger, I was a bit of a troubled kid and while I wasn’t nasty, I didn’t really like to take orders from anyone and being told what to do.

“I wanted to be involved in the productive side of making things happen.

“Doing a business is the only thing I do really well at.”
