I REALLY didn’t want to leap again into the ongoing tumult about Sienna Barnett’s broken leg, but it’s hard to resist the temptation.

With a bit of luck, the chap featured on our front page today will pop into his nearest police station and either divorce himself from any involvement in the incident or fess up.

At this stage, police simply want to interview him so let’s not jump to conclusions.

However, let’s be clear about the facts surrounding this case, particularly for those people who appear to want to broaden the argument way further than necessary.

1. This is a four-year-old girl walking on a pavement. Not dashing across the road. Walking on a pavement.

2. This was a man riding a cycle on that same pavement without, we are strongly led to believe, the benefit of lights in the early evening gloom.

3. There were no cars involved.

I repeat, there were no cars involved.

So why is it that so many people want to use the incident as an opportunity to highlight just how stupid many car drivers are.

We know that, just as we know that there are probably a fairly proportionate number of goons who ride their bikes on pavements, belt along promenades and ride without lights after the hours of darkness.

For once, this is about a stupid cyclist.

You’ll have your chance to pick on stupid motorists soon.
