A PLAY association which has been helping local young people for 35 years has received a boost from JP Morgan.

Fernheath Play Association has been able to buy tables and chairs for its children thanks to the £1,500 cheque.

Paddy Williamson, who founded the association on an open field in 1976 and is now honorary chairperson, said: “As time progressed buildings were constructed and extensions made thanks to help from local businesses and grants.

“This is not the first time we have received help from JP Morgan and their substantial support on this occasion of £1,500 has been spent on some much needed tables and chairs for the children to use.”

FPA operates during every school holiday and during out of school hours up until 5.30pm.

The staff numbers vary and over 15 are needed during the very busy summer times. There are around 360 children registered and many of them attend on a regular basis.

“We do quite a lot of fundraising ourselves but with the best will in the world it is not sufficient to pay the high staffing costs,” added Paddy.

Linda Jessop, who is a member of the JP Morgan community relations committee, has visited FPA and seen the great work that goes on there.

“I enjoyed my visit very much and we’re pleased to have been able to help Fernheath Play Association with its work,” she said.

Tell us what you're doing to help

EVERY day until Christmas your caring Daily Echo will be highlighting the heart-warming, helpful things our local firms and readers are doing for charity this 2011 festive season.

Are you collecting gifts for disadvantaged kids? Tins of dog food for the poor pooches at your local animal shelter?

Are you dressing up to raise a cheer and a few quid for those who are less fortunate?

Or maybe you’re organising a party for the local old folk?

Whatever you’re getting up to, we’d love to know because we want to publish a page of Happy Christmas news every week.

Send in news and pictures to newsdesk@bournemouthecho.co.uk with Give Back This Christmas in the subject header information.
