BRIGHT spark Wes Fogden is at the start of his footballing career – but he is already making plans for the future.

The Cherries new boy is hoping to complete a degree course while plying his trade at Seward Stadium.

Signed on a three-year deal earlier this month, Fogden swapped non-league Havant & Waterlooville and life as a full-time student to play in the professional ranks.

The former Brighton trainee was in the second year of a sports coaching and physical education degree at the University of Chichester when Cherries came calling.

Having made his full debut for Lee Bradbury’s team at Colchester on Tuesday night, Fogden is keen to make his mark in League One. But he is also planning to put his time off the field to good use.

Fogden told the Echo: “I have been in contact with the university because I was hoping to do something part-time, maybe if it took one, two or three years longer to get the degree.

“At the moment, it does not seem possible, but I am still hoping they might come through with something, just so I can get something in the bag for when I finish my career.

“Everyone needs something after they finish football so, hopefully, I can sort out something and do it gradually.

“I had done the first year of a three-year course and was five or six weeks into the second year.

“I am hoping to do it on the side, home schooling maybe, and taking bits off the Internet, writing assignments and stuff like that. But I will have to see what they come back with.

“I would like to keep my mind busy and try to get my degree at the same time.”
