STUDLAND Beach is set to host an event of Pythonesque comic proportions.

Hundreds of people are expected to flock to the sands to take part in a mass Monty Python-inspired silly walk.

The National Trust South West has already launched an online campaign to find the nation’s silliest walkers, with people being encouraged to record themselves ‘silly walking’ in trust-managed landscapes around the country.

Whoever is deemed the most ridiculous silly walker will win a weekend in a National Trust holiday cottage.

The National Trust’s Rachael Johnston said: “The silly walking campaign is all about putting a little bit of fun back into walking and getting people out into the landscape.

“There are so many amazing places to explore and experience and we want people to find their own personal walking wonderlands and get a little silly.”

During the Studland Beach event on October 23, Bournemouth University students and members of the public will be led by actors and actresses from the Rogue Theatre company.

A spokesman said: “Everyone is welcome and fancy dress is optional – just bring your silliest walk and leave your inhibitions in the car park.”

This initiative forms part of National Trust One – a new set of downloadable, regional mile-long walks.

The trust is also launching a new walking festival and between October 22 to 30, events will be happening across the country to coincide with both concepts.

Rachael said: “We can’t wait to see how many people we get together at Studland all silly walking at once.”
