“LADY Gaga and I are like twins – except we were born at different times.”

That’s actress Su Pollard’s take on the multi-million selling pop star’s latest outfit of white glasses, lacy dress and fur pelt – which has been likened to Su’s own inimitable style.

The 61-year-old former Hi-de-Hi star, currently playing Miss Hannigan in Annie at Poole Lighthouse, is more than happy to see the American songstress following in her wacky footsteps.

Su said: “I think it’s very flattering that Lady Gaga has chosen me as her mentor.

“I always think one person every decade uses their own imagination and style.

“I’ve had mine for nearly 62 years and she’s just discovering hers.”

They are “like peas in a pod”, she says, in having the confidence to dress how they please.

“A different dress sense excites curiosity in people,” she says.

“Very often you get asked: ‘And what have you come as?’ like you’re in fancy dress. But the people that really matter are fine with it.”

Bold dressing is stamped into her psyche, she says.

Out shopping with her conservative mum at the age of four, she threw a tantrum until she got the polka dot dress and tights with one blue and one yellow leg that she wanted.

She has to discard her beloved accessories to portray Annie’s eccentric orphanage matron Miss Hannigan.

“Going from being flamboyant to really drab is terrible,” she said.

“But it’s nice to take five minutes to get dressed and made up. If only it could be like that in real life.

“I’m hoping to be reincarnated as a gay man’s dog, being carried around in a handbag dolled up to the nines.” Call 0844 406 8666 or visit lighthousepoole.co.uk for tickets to the show at 7.30pm tonight or 2.30pm and 7.30pm tomorrow.
