IT is a phenomenon that has sold more than 13 million records worldwide and it will be performed live for the first time in 10 years in Bournemouth.

Louis Clark has chosen to bring the 30th anniversary of Hooked on Classics to the seaside resort in December, with a new live production.

He will conduct the 60-piece English Pops Orchestra, which features many people who played on the original album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; playing a collection of extracts from classical music over a continuous beat, known as symphonic rock or orchestrated rock.

Speaking to the Daily Echo at the BIC, the venue for the December 22 show – the only one in the UK this year – Louis said Bournemouth was an easy choice.

He said: “This is the first classics concert for 10 years and Bournemouth is the perfect place to do it because I used to do it every December for about 12 years, so it’s good to come back here and do it again.

“I think it was the obvious choice to come to Bournemouth and it’s the end of the year, so there’s no chance for any more this year, but there should be a tour coming together in the spring.

“To do it at Christmas time is good because of all the times all those years was when I did it and it was tradition.”

Louis said the show was bound to bring back some memories of those concerts.

He added: “It makes me feel old! It’s great to be doing it again because it’s a fun concert to do.

“It hasn’t been played much for a while and a new lot of people will be listening to it and people will be saying that they remember it.

“Usually the age group is right across the board.”

The original album gave Louis a number one single in the UK, a number one album in the USA and went either gold or platinum in 27 countries.
