A TASTE of Asian culture, in all its colour and finery, will be coming to Poole’s Baiter Park this weekend.

Large crowds are expected at the Bournemouth and Poole Mela event, which has been organised to promote Asian culture and language by the Asian Women’s Association Saaz Aur Awaaz.

Backed by the Daily Echo, the mela includes live music and dance, henna, martial arts, story telling, authentic Asian food and drink and a host of other activities.

The main event takes place at the park on Labrador Drive, Poole, on Saturday, from 10am-8pm.

Tomorrow, the park will host a Bollywood Gala Evening with champagne reception, three-course Indian dinner and grand raffle.

One of the core aims of Saaz Aur Awaaz and the festivities is to forge greater cultural understanding between east and west.

An organisation spokesman said: “The aim of Saaz Aur Awaaz is to reach people of all ages in order to promote inclusion into the society of today.

“It is dedicated to fostering greater cultural understanding between east and west and helping the people of Dorset build more open and peaceful societies in ways that honour their unique cultures and values.”

The Bournemouth and Poole Mela, which is backed by Dorset Police, Borough of Poole and Bournemouth Borough Council, is open to all.

Admission is £3 for adults, £10 for a family ticket, children under 10 free.
