A BOURNEMOUTH man’s face was rebuilt by surgeons after his jaw was shattered during a vicious gang attack in the resort’s Pleasure Gardens.

The late-night assault happened a week after a 25-year-old Bournemouth man suffered facial fractures in another part of town.

Both victims ended up being treated at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital before undergoing emergency surgery for their injuries.

The victim of the latest attack; a 29-year-old computer analyst and his friend, from Swindon, who suffered broken ribs, were set upon as they walked from the seafront towards Westover Road at about midnight on Wednesday, July 20.

His girlfriend, who does not wish to be identified, told the Daily Echo: “They had walked under the flyover and were on their way to Gervis Place when they were attacked from behind.

“One of the attackers hit my partner around the face; he can’t remember much but his friend thinks there were four or five lads involved.

“My partner had to have an operation to have plates put into his chin; a doctor who treated him said he thought he had been kicked in the head.

“His jaw is now clamped for six weeks so he can’t speak or go back to work.

“As well as broken ribs his friend suffered bruising to his face.”

The woman, who rushed to their aid, said: “My partner’s friend was able to ring me and I got to them before the police arrived to take them to hospital.

“After an X-ray, my partner was transferred to Poole Hospital where he was on morphine for 48 hours before having three and a half hours of surgery.”

She added: “Because he can’t speak the police haven’t been able to take a statement from him.

“Those involved ran off towards the Pavilion and we are hoping they will have been caught on a CCTV camera.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack to phone 01202 222222, quoting incident number 21:8, or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
