SUNNY skies will hopefully greet visitors to this year’s New Forest Show as they step through the gates for the first day of the rural extravaganza today.

Visitors to the three-day event at New Park in Brockenhurst will see the jaw-dropping spectacle of Jamie Squibb’s amazing motorcycle display, the ever-popular pony club mounted games and the Solent Dog display team among the main ring attractions for 2011.

The Show Farm is also set to make a return alongside a new poultry section and a series of events by the Young Farmers including the impressive livestock grand parade tomorrow, giving competitors a chance to showcase their prized animals.

And with a jam-packed programme of horse events this year, including international show jumping, there is something to suit every interest.

As well as the animals there will be the sweet-smelling flower show, giant vegetable competition and a chance for visitors to name a rose, with other fantastic prizes to be won.

A book, featuring the diaries of New Forest artist Anne McEntegart, will also be unveiled at the show by her niece Shirley Nicholson.

The book, The Milk Lady at New Park Farm, details life in wartime Hampshire.

For children there will be a family fun area specially designed for youngsters of all ages, with other all-day entertainment consisting of dancing, face painting, circus workshops and listening to magical storytelling as well as a range of activities from pole climbing to football.

There will also be a chance to see some of the best trainee furniture makers in the UK as part of a special exhibition.

Hungry visitors can then take their pick of an array of tasty treats in the food tent.

From demonstrations by Hampshire Fare’s Susie Carter to children’s cookery, farm animals and a mock pig auction, there will be goodies produced by local farmers and award-winning chefs.

The show will run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
