STAFF and pupils at Pokesdown Primary School are celebrating after receiving top marks in their recent SATs tests.
Results released to head teachers this week reveal the school came overall top of the league table in Bournemouth.
Year 6 took exams in English, maths and science in May – achievement is rated on the percentage of children achieving level four or above.
At Pokesdown the marks were 96, 93 and 93 per cent respectively.
Almost half the pupils achieved the higher level five and 97 per cent made two levels of progress in English and maths – the national target is 60 per cent.
“I am absolutely thrilled” said head teacher Vivienne Arkell. “The children are excelling in their learning. They enjoyed their SATs tests, feeling relaxed and confident during the week – they should all feel very proud of themselves.”
Results for the other primary schools in the area have not yet been released to the public. “We are over the moon as it is due to the superb teaching throughout the school and our new curriculum, which is so exciting, enriching and motivating.
“This year our focus has been on improving mathematics throughout the school and we certainly have done this – we have so much to celebrate.”
Mrs Arkell thanked the staff and also parents for supporting learning at home.
