RESIDENTS were evacuated from their homes in Poole in the early hours of Friday morning after a fire in a refuse store.
Three crews from Poole were called to a property in Prosperous Street in Old Town Poole just after 3.30am after numerous calls reporting a property fire with people possibly still sleeping inside.
On arrival fire fighters discovered the fire in the refuse store with the property unaffected.
Eighteen people had evacuated and fire fighters using two hose reel jets and one main line and breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze.
Crews remained on scene stripping tiles from the roof after the fire was extinguished around 4am.
It is believed the fire was started by hot embers left in the refuse area and caused severe fire and smoke damage to the store and smoke damage to the exterior of one of the properties.
