I USED to say that I was the head of the household.

My wife, every mindful of the contribution I make to that household on a daily basis, will assure me that I am indeed the head... but that she is the neck and can therefore make me turn any which way she wants.

I get the impression that Wendi Deng may well be a woman after my wife’s heart and her instant response to the attack on her husband Rupert Murdoch has to be wholeheartedly applauded.

For a few priceless seconds, the fact that her filthy-rich husband had overseen one of the most rotten, shameful executive teams in business history was forgotten as she instinctively protected her loved one, leaping over him to get to the custard-pie attacker.

And yes, there is the temptation to ask her the question: And what was it about the multi-millionaire Australian media magnate that attracted you to him?

But in that moment, we saw a woman defending her man physically after offering her support throughout a hearing where quite rightly he was given a hard time by committee members.

I have to admit that my wife’s only disappointment is that Wendi didn’t follow up her flat-of-the-hand swipe with a few well-aimed blows in the nether regions, ensuring we would never forget the name of his aggressor, Jonnie Marbles….
