TWO men arrested over the death of a Poole chef have been released on bail as detectives renewed an appeal to find his mobile phone.

Glyn Helliwell, 42, described as a “gentle giant” by those who knew him, was found dying from stab wounds in Parkwood Road, Southbourne, Bournemouth, at 12.45am on Wednesday.

He was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, but died later.

On Friday detectives investigating Mr Helliwell’s death said they were looking to recover his mobile phone or a missing knife.

Last night, DCI Kevin Connolly renewed his appeal to the public – particularly shop owners – in finding the black Sony Ericsson k800i.

He said: “I particularly appeal to local shop owners who may have innocently purchased a mobile phone matching this description recently.

“I’d also urge residents to check their gardens and bins for any sign of the missing mobile phone or of a knife. Finding Glyn’s phone could help us to understand exactly what happened during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“I’d also appeal again for anyone with any information about Glyn’s movements during the evening of Tuesday, July 5 and the early hours of Wednesday, July 6 to get in touch.”

Mr Helliwell was a popular chef at Southbourne’s Bistro on the Beach restaurant, whose boss called the 6ft 3in Poole man a “gentle giant” and a “true gentleman”.

An inquest opened on Thursday heard that he died from a stab wound.

Two Bournemouth men, aged 21 and 28, were arrested and have now been released on police bail.

Anyone with information about the case should call Dorset police in confidence on 01202 222222 quoting incident number 06:14, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
