A MAN has been left distraught after a Rottweiler burst into his garden and savaged his pet cat to death.

Father of two, Russell Johns, 34 of, was at work when the dog got away from its owner and attacked grey persian Kess in the front garden of his home at Russel Road, Kinson.

Despite the efforts of neighbours to pull the huge animal off Kess, the 13-year-old was left badly injured.

His mum, Linda McGillivray, rushed Kess to the vets but the moggie was diagnosed with a punctured lung and died a short time later.

Flooring manager, Mr Johns, is now calling for Rottweilers and other “dangerous dogs” to be muzzled in public places.

Mr Johns said: “The cat was in my garden and the Rottweiler was being walked along the road.

“From what I heard it ripped out of its owner’s hand, ran over and attacked the cat.

“Now we have a £408 vet bill to pay. It’s another dangerous dog not being controlled by its owner. If a dog can attack a cat it can attack a child.

“More dangerous dogs should be muzzled. A big dog can do a lot of damage.

“I’ve grown up with Kess. He was an outdoor cat and didn’t spend much time indoors. He was always out and about. He was lazy and used to just lie about in the sunshine.

“It was very upsetting and a bit of a shock. When my children come round they are going to miss him as well.”

Dean Shepherd, environmental protection officer for animal welfare said: “We are aware of the incident that took place yesterday in Kinson and our dog warden is currently investigating the matter.”
