A COUNCILLOR is baffled at the ‘lack of planning’ that has seen a single pothole repaired four times in just over a year.

Claire Smith said there was now a patchwork of different surfaces at Kitscroft Road in Kinson, Bournemouth.

“This is just becoming a false economy,” said Cllr Smith. “They don’t seem to be filled in around the edges.

“The biggest problem is that the aggregate that is being thrown up out of the pothole is not being swept up.

“It is acting as a scouring pad, working its way into the new surface and just lifting out what they have put in.”

She said the debris was being thrown up against windows and getting into car tyres.

And she said the repair teams will fill in one pothole, but not the one next to it.

“It seems a bit more planning would stop the overwork,” she said. “There doesn’t seem to be as much organisation as there should be.”

Bournemouth Council has repaired potholes on the road 19 times since 2009.

Stuart Best, street services manager, said: “All Bournemouth roads are inspected as part of our highway inspection programme, and potholes are repaired on a priority basis.

“Road Rescue teams have been out repairing roads across Bournemouth since the severe weather at the beginning of 2010. So far approximately 3,000 potholes have been fixed.”
